Effects of Resilience and Nursing Work Environment on the Managerial Competence of Nursing Unit Managers in Small and Medium-sized Hospitals

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of resilience and the nursing work environment on the managerial competence of nursing unit managers in small and medium-sized hospitals. Methods: Convenience sampling was used to select nursing unit managers working in 18 small and medium-sized hospitals with bed capacities ranging from 100 to 299. Data were collected from 120 participants via an online survey consisting of 105 items; the survey period was October 9 to November 4, 2022. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, ANOVA, and a hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS/Win (version 25.0). Results: Participants' resilience averaged 4.11±0.50 out of 5, while the nursing work environment and management competence averaged 2.75±0.51 and 3.14±0.47 out of 4, respectively.
