Purpose: This study aimed to explore and understand the lived experiences of novice nurses providing end-of-life care, particularly focusing on their psychological burden and technical challenges in the context of increasing demand for end-of-life care. Methods: A qualitative content analysis was conducted. Fourteen novice nurses with 1-3 years of clinical experience participated in this study. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, both face-to-face (n=12) and virtual (n=2). The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using systematic coding procedures. Research trustworthiness was established through researcher triangulation, participant verification, and maintaining an audit trail. Results: Analysis of 93 significant statements yielded four major categories and seven subcategories of novice nurses' experiences. The major categories identified were: 'inexperience in end-of-life care', 'striving for dignified death', 'professional growth through end-of-life care experiences', and 'necessity of preparation for end-of-life care'. Novice nurses initially experienced considerable psychological burden and technical difficulties in providing end-of-life care. However, as they accumulated experience, they demonstrated progressive development in their professional competence and emotional resilience. Conclusion: The findings highlight novice nurses' developmental trajectory in end-of-life care and emphasize the need for systematic educational programs. These results can inform the development of nursing curricula and support systems to improve end-of-life care quality.
