Purpose: This study aimed to understand the importance of home health care nursing as experienced by persons with spinal cord injury, identify home health care nursing-related needs of persons with spinal cord injury, and provide basic data for researchers seeking ways to enhance home health care nursing. Methods: This qualitative study was examined using Downe-Wamboldt's content analysis method. Study participants included 22 men and women with spinal cord injury, aged 30 to 80, receiving home health care nursing. Through in-depth interviews using a semi-structured interview form, data were collected from May to July 2022 and subsequently evaluated using content analysis. Results: Sixteen concepts, fitting 6 subcategories and 2 super categories, were derived from the nursing experience of persons with spinal cord injury in home health care. Individual aspects were categorized into three subcategories: physical pain and problems, changes in family roles and burdens, and changes in lifestyle. Home health care nursing was divided into three subcategories: professional, economic and limited. Conclusion: This study confirmed that home health care nursing needs are diverse due to the nature of spinal cord injury as a disability and chronic disease. As a result, differentiated and specialized nursing should be provided. To provide the type of nursing required in a home health care setting for spinal cord injury patients, policy measures should be sought to deliver comprehensive and continuous support through institutional improvement.
